Questions For Postgraduate Study
Be warned, depending on the university, a degree with the same name can very dramatically in length, cost and assessment requirements. Do some preliminary research before enrolling in any degree.
All universities have information bout the degrees they offer on their websites, and you can contact the university department for more information. Some questions you might like to ask are:
- How long has the degree been offered at this university?
- Where have previous graduates been successful in finding employment?
- Who will be teaching the subjects (lecturers only, invited experts who are currently employed in related industry)?
- Does the course involve any classes where the undergraduate and postgraduate students are taught together?
- If so, how does the lecturer ensure that postgraduate students are taught and assessed at a higher level?
- How large are the classes?
- How much access do students have to lecturers outside class hours?
- When are classes taught (full time, part time, external)?
- If classes are taught after hours, are university facilities such as computer labs and libraries also open after hours?
- What sort of academic support services are provided by the university?
- How much does the program cost?
